NSW-based traffic, security and production support firm drives sustainability and boosts productivity with Verizon Connect

We can respond faster and more accurately to customer queries and offer peace of mind that our staff are exactly where we believe them to be.
Brodie Arabi
Warehouse and Logistics Manager at CATO

As one of Australia’s most innovative traffic management, security, safety and production support crew companies, its team works across diverse industries on complex and demanding projects.

CATO serves a wide range of clients, from local and state governments to blockbuster film producers. As well as working on Tier 1 construction projects, the company has provided its services for the WestConnex Rozelle Interchange, the City of Sydney and Northern Beaches NYE fireworks celebrations and Sydney WorldPride’s Pride March. CATO is both ISO accredited and a certified carbon neutral organisation. This ensures its services are not just of the highest quality, but also sustainable and compliant with all legal and operational standards.

The challenge

Whether it’s at an interchange, a metro station or a celebration, CATO has a strong duty of care to anyone who interacts with its services.

This extends beyond working to the highest safety standards and meeting all relevant regulations. The company is also committed to ensuring that its work enhances rather than negatively impacts our planet.

With this in mind, CATO needed a way to monitor fuel consumption in order to meet its carbon neutral agreement. The ability to keep a closer eye on fuel economy would also help to control costs in light of fluctuating prices at the pump.

As its crew work across various job types, sites and locations, Warehouse and Logistics Manager Brodie Arabi and his team wanted access to near real-time location and status information.

Finally, CATO needed a solution that would allow it to reassure customers that its vehicles and crew are arriving promptly as expected to job sites.

“We can respond faster and more accurately to customer queries and offer peace of mind that our staff are exactly where we believe them to be.” Brodie Arabi, Warehouse and Logistics Manager at CATO.

The solution

Brodie and his team opted for the Verizon Connect solution thanks to its ability to offer deep insight into vehicle location and fleet operations. Our solution allows the company to monitor fuel consumption, kilometres travelled, site arrival time and much more.

As well as helping CATO to remain on track with its commitment to carbon neutrality, tracking vehicles in this way allows for more accurate quotes and billing, based on actual kilometres travelled.

Verizon Connect gives us greater visibility of any vehicle in the fleet and its location.” Brodie Arabi, Warehouse and Logistics Manager at CATO.

With the system’s live map and near real-time tracking capabilities, CATO can more closely monitor drivers and staff in the field. Having this information at their fingertips means management can respond faster and more accurately to customer queries – offering peace of mind that all vehicles are where they should be.

The Verizon Connect solution also integrates with CATO’s rostering software and fuel card system, giving the business the ability to increase scheduling efficiency and take action against fuel fraud and theft.

The result

Since implementing the Verizon Connect solution, CATO has seen significant improvements in fuel consumption, employee accountability and driver safety. Our fleet management technology also helps the company accrue and claim Fuel Tax Credits (FTC).

The ability to score and rank drivers based on safety and performance allows CATO to identify, measure and address potential issues before they become major problems.

What’s more, as the company often works in hostile environments relating to its local and state government services, geofencing and alerts to unauthorised activity have allowed it to respond to potential security breaches in near real-time.

We’ve seen significant improvements in both productivity and efficiency since implementing the Verizon Connect solution.” Brodie Arabi, Warehouse and Logistics Manager at CATO.

Live map and location tracking mean operations managers are no longer required to manually verify the whereabouts and status of a vehicle, saving time and boosting operational efficiency.

Similarly, data gathered by the Verizon Connect fleet solution allows CATO’s senior management teams to monitor arrival times, time on site and vehicle movement to address customer queries and disputes with tangible evidence.

Such is the success of our fleet technology implementation that CATO plans to expand its use of our services as its fleet continues to grow.
