Buy Cheap, Buy Twice

By Simon Austin February 3, 2020

Vehicle tracking systems play an integral role in organisations from a whole host of industries, allowing them to track drivers, plan routes, and potentially save time, money, and resources.

In light of this, it is perhaps not surprising that there is a rapidly expanding range of products on the market, all of them offering a variety of features and benefits – and all, of course, coming in at different prices.

But which one should you choose? When you’re running a business, every penny counts, so naturally there is always the temptation to buy the cheapest solution available. However, if the low-cost system you buy ends up being difficult to use and the data takes a considerable amount of time to interpret and analyse, how much is it really costing you? After all, as the old adage maintains, time is money.

Think about it, if you buy cheap shoes, you might make savings on the initial investment but if you have to replace them after a couple of months because they let water in, would it not be better to invest slightly more in a pair that you’ll be wearing for years to come? Of course it would.

The same concept applies when investing in a vehicle tracking system. Rather than basing your decision purely on the price of the product, it’s important that you carefully consider the features, quality, and performance of the system.

Before making your decision, you should consider exactly what features you need in your chosen system and what level of training may be required from anyone who wishes to operate it. A good tracking system should allow you to customise its output, providing you with your chosen information in an easy to understand format, with very little product training required.

If the system you have your eye on doesn’t fit that description, perhaps it is best to go back to the drawing board – after all, if you buy cheap, you may buy twice.
