What is Telematics and How Does it Benefit Fleets?
Telematics technology allows the sending, receiving and storing of information relating to vehicles via tracking devices...
Read moreThe dashcam’s popularity is increasing year by year. According to a study by Berg Insight, video telematics is now in a period of growth that is expected to last for many years, with continued strong uptake of video telematics solutions across all geographies expected between 2021 and 2025.(1)
What is a dashcam and what is it used for?
A dashcam is an integrated camera that can be placed on the vehicles’ dashboard, on the sides or rear of the vehicle to record everything that happens outside.
The dashcams NZ are focused on reducing accident rates and combating fraudulent claims, this has made them increasingly popular, in fact they are forecasted to grow annually in the commercial vehicle segment by more than 12.0 % from 2021 to 2028 in terms of revenue, (1).
The connection of dashcams with GPS location technology enhances the benefits of both systems by linking driving behaviour with events on the road. This is because the GPS equipment can detect an acceleration, deceleration or sharp turn, and at that moment capture a video through the dashcam of what has happened and send it to the fleet manager.
The fleet manager can view the video to better understand what happened before and after the accident, and provide video evidence in case of a claim, as well as use this information to improve the driver's driving behaviour and avoid accidents in the future.
Dashcams´ Market: The huge growth in recent years
The increasing number of car thefts and traffic accidents worldwide, as well as favourable government initiatives are significantly driving the demand for such products in recent years.
The benefits that this technology can provide to businesses with fleets has allowed a huge increase in dashcams’ demand by different types of companies regardless of their sizes. For commercial vehicles, its global demand forecast is for more than 35.0 million units by 2028.(2) Also,It is forecasted an annual growth rate of more than 12.0%, in terms of revenue, from 2021 to 2028 and a demand for more than 35.0 million units in 2028. (3)
The reason for this spectacular growth is because these recordings allow you to watch relevant video clips within minutes of an unsafe event that can be very helpful to reduce accidents and false accident claims. This technology is critical to protect your commercial vehicles and coach your drivers to promote drivers’ safety.
VZC Integrated Video: The dashcam in Australia which joins AI and driver data
Verizon Connect Integrated Video can help fleet managers and business owners focus on the harsh driving events that need their attention.
Once the engine is started, the camera system will begin recording and continue to do so until the engine is turned off. Artificial intelligence checks for any unsafe driving events such as hard braking, hard acceleration and hard cornering, classifies the event as to its severity (collision, dangerous, rough or low-risk driving) and sends a notification with HD video to the fleet manager for decision making.
By reviewing video footage of harsh driving events, you can better understand the context of why a driver is making a quick turn, hard stop or fast acceleration. This can help you more specifically coach your drivers to help improve future driving behaviour and prioritise safety between them.
This dashcam action may help businesses receive discounts through your insurance company, because you will be able to provide video evidence in case of a false insurance claim.
Verizon Connect Integrated Video also allows you to request video of a specific moment, preview the clip and receive the video in your inbox within minutes for analysis.
