The year 2023 had the highest number of billion-dollar disasters the United States has ever experienced in a calendar year.  Those 28 weather and climate disasters included a winter storm, a wildfire, drought/heat wave event, flooding, tornados, tropical cyclones, and other severe weather and hail events. The number of billion-dollar disasters in 2023 represents a 55% increase over the 18 weather and climate disasters in 2022.
