Get a greener fleet with Verizon Connect

By Holly Dempster April 8, 2021

The green issue has never been higher on the agenda. Increasingly ambitious CO2 targets, petrol and diesel phase outs, and growing cultural and societal pressure mean all fleets must do what they can to bring down vehicle emissions.

When operating a busy fleet across the country or even the world, this is no easy task. However, with the right tools in place, it’s possible to keep your carbon footprint under control.

Verizon Connect’s fleet management technology can help you monitor your CO2 output, reduce fuel consumption, and more, to deliver a truly green operation.

Keep tabs on your emissions

It’s impossible to make tangible reductions if you’re unable to measure your emissions. With Verizon Connect’s Emissions Report, you can monitor and visualise your carbon output. With this data to hand, you can also set measurable targets and take steps to reduce total emissions.

The at-a-glance dashboard also shows information on distanced travelled and MPG.

By tracking patterns across your vehicles, you can identify potential causes of increased output, such as uneconomical driving styles or older and poorly maintained vehicles.

Cut out wasteful behaviour

Driving style can have a significant impact on fuel consumption and, in turn, on your environmental impact.

By monitoring instances of harsh driving and speeding across your fleet, you can use real world data to rank and incentivise greener behaviour. The more economical the driving style, the higher the driver scores. You can then reward the drivers that create fewer emissions and incentivise others to improve.

The same can be done to tackle another major contributor to fuel waste: idling. Just a few minutes idling per stop can quickly add up across your fleet. With a fleet management solution in place, you can spot patterns, flag the worst offenders and take action.

Reduce unnecessary mileage

There’s no more costly a mile than one you didn’t need to travel. With fleet management technology, you can route your daily drops in the most efficient order, taking into account factors such as load and customer type, and road conditions. This approach could reduce your fleet mileage and the fewer miles you travel, the less CO2 you emit.

There are other tactics to reduce your fleet mileage too. A great way is to cut down on personal mileage. A GPS fleet solution allows you to set geofences along permitted routes, so you’ll know whenever a driver goes off track to run a personal errand. You can place geofences around depots and drivers’ houses too, to confirm vehicles are only operated when authorised.

Say goodbye to paperwork

Fuel may be your biggest consumable, but it’s not the only area where you can reduce your carbon footprint.

Digitising key processes such as payroll, timesheets, billing and invoicing can also reduce your environmental impact. And that’s not all. Taking this key data online creates an automatic “paper” trail and gives your teams access to data they need to run a smooth operation -- whether you’re in the office, on site or out on the road.

Add electric vehicles to your fleet

Electricity is no longer the fuel of the future. Electric vehicles (EVs) are here today, and increasing numbers of organisations are already seeing the environmental and financial benefits of adding them to their fleets.

EVs can cut your vehicle emissions to zero as well as offering purchase incentives, and the potential for lower running and maintenance costs.

And with the Verizon Connect solution, you can easily monitor and manage your EVs alongside the rest of your vehicles. It’s simply a case of selecting ‘Battery Electric Vehicle’ in your Reveal solution. You’ll then see the EV icon next to the vehicle in the Live Map feature and in our Spotlight mobile app.

Take the next step to a fully green fleet

We can all do more to reduce our carbon footprint and our impact on the world around us. But when running a fleet-reliant business, it can be challenging to know where to start.

Verizon Connect’s fleet management solution makes it easy. With your fleet data at your fingertips, you can spot and rectify inefficiencies like harsh driving, unnecessary mileage, and idling – to help reduce fuel consumption and lower your total CO2 emissions.

And that’s only one of the many benefits of the Verizon Connect platform. Once in place, it can help to improve and automate your business, enabling you to drive efficiency, promote safety, grow revenues and react fast to customer needs.
