How businesses like yours benefit from fleet management technology

By Holly Dempster September 4, 2020

If you’ve researched fleet management technology for any length of time, you’re likely already aware of the headline benefits. You’ll know how such solutions can help your business work smarter, save money, and potentially improve safety, efficiency and profitability.

When it comes to making the decision to implement such a solution, however, what really counts are real-world results. And there are plenty.

Here are just a few ways that businesses like yours are benefitting from fleet management technology.

First Mile: Reduce idling

Idling is a hidden cost across many fleets. Just a few minutes here and there can soon add up when multiple vehicles are involved. By tracking instances of idling with a fleet management solution, you can spot repeat offenders and coach drivers into more economical habits.

Waste management provider, First Mile, did precisely that with Verizon Connect Reveal. The company used its solution to score drivers based on their idling time. Those at the top are rewarded for their performance while those lower down are incentivised to improve.

Since adopting this approach, First Mile has seen instances of idling reduce by 70%.

TC Facilities Management: Increase visibility

Increased visibility of your operation can bring many benefits, allowing you to form better plans and make fast, informed decisions.

Fleet management technology can help to improve visibility in several ways, offering near real-time information on location and key events out in the field.

TC Facilities Management has seen many of these benefits since implementing a Verizon Connect solution. The company reports that visibility is “much improved” allowing it to quickly check job status and site arrival and departure time, as well as improving the accuracy of its billing process.

MannVend: Save fuel

After employee wages, fuel is MannVend’s biggest cost. This is also the case for many fleet-reliant businesses. Any tool that can help to reduce fuel consumption, and, in turn, fuel spend can only be positive.

It certainly has been for Manx vending services provider MannVend. Since partnering with Verizon Connect, the company has reduced its fuel spend by decreasing idling and optimising its daily routes. Since implementing the solution, MannVend also reported reducing its fuel bill to the same level as three years previously.

As well as lowering fuel costs, smarter routing has also allowed the company to attend more calls during the working day, improving productivity and increasing reliability “tenfold”.

Best Electrical: Boost revenue

Saving money is just one of the benefits that come from installing fleet management technology. A comprehensive system can also help to boost revenues through greater efficiency and customer satisfaction.

This is the result seen by Best Electrical after implementing a Verizon Connect solution. The company realised an additional £60,000 in revenue due to increased productivity – without having to increase its workforce.

With the system in place, Best Electrical can complete an additional job per engineer per day.

And that’s not all, Verizon Connect has also helped to reduce personal mileage, lower fuel costs and improve service levels.

B&K Boiler Services: Cut mileage

Mileage is not often thought of as costly. Certainly not when compared to fuel spend or employee wages. However, increased mileage also brings with it increased costs, both directly and indirectly.

Excess miles not only increase fuel consumption but can also increase wear and tear on vehicles, and hamper efficiency during the working day. By reducing mileage, you can potentially lower your fuel spend, increase the longevity of your vehicles and serve more customers.

These are just some of the benefits realised by B&K Boiler Services since deploying a Verizon Connect solution.

The company has seen its annual mileage halve, dropping by 15,000 miles per year. As well as representing a “huge reduction in fuel costs”, this has enabled them to take on an extra one to two jobs per day. Such is the increase in efficiency and productivity that “the system has paid for itself ten times over.”
