Spotlight on the service industry

By Holly Dempster April 2, 2024

From electrics and boiler repair to cleaning and care, whatever service you provide, your customers rely on you to meet their needs.

Of course, different service businesses face different challenges, but all require the visibility and control to drive efficiency and safety while meeting increasingly demanding SLAs.

When faced with these challenges, a growing number of fleet-reliant businesses are turning to GPS technology to help monitor and manage mobile operations. Many are already seeing the benefits.

Of the 72% of service fleets with a GPS solution in place, over three-quarters (75%) believe it to be “very” or “extremely” beneficial. Most have reported improvements in productivity (66%) and routing (61%), while just under half (46%) used their system to reduce fuel consumption.

A combination of intelligent reporting, live location information and actionable insight from fleet data helps businesses across the services industry reach their goals and serve their customers.

How Verizon Connect supports the services industry

Cheshunt-based cleaning service, The Box Cleaning Company, uses Verizon Connect applications to find and relocate the nearest driver to new job requests. With near real-time location, vehicle status and traffic data, office staff can mitigate delays and provide accurate and timely ETAs to customers.

It was not until we received a phone call from Verizon Connect that we became aware of the enormous potential of GPS tracking.

The company leveraged our solution to reduce fuel consumption across its fleet operations too. Our innovative traffic light system highlights prolonged instances of idling, allowing fleet managers to take action in the moment. This information is also used to coach drivers into more fuel-friendly habits behind the wheel.

Automatic alerts whenever a vehicle is operated outside working hours have helped The Box Cleaning Company save an average of £200 per week previously lost to fuel and maintenance costs.

We couldn’t even imagine running our fleet without Reveal.

Another Verizon Connect customer, HBBA Care, credits the Verizon Connect solution with halving its fuel consumption.

The greatest measurable benefit is on fuel consumption, which has been reduced by nearly 50%.

The company, which provides person-centred care to vulnerable people in the community, implemented our solution to track costs against budget and make sure waste is kept to a minimum.

Since implementing Verizon Connect fleet management technology, HBBA Care can be confident that company vehicles are being used as they should be.

With greater visibility into vehicle location and driver behaviour, the company is able to quickly spot and act on areas of inefficiency. As a result, unnecessary mileage, waste and reckless driving have all decreased.

To sum up the benefits of the Verizon Connect solution in a few words… Control! Control! Control!

Family-run business B&K Boiler Services, turned to Verizon Connect to increase the efficiency of its scheduling process and provide a better service to its customers.

With the system now in place, the company has succeeded in adding more jobs to the working day and improving the accuracy of its ETAs.

Previously, the average number of jobs completed by an engineer was between eight to nine jobs a day. It’s now nine to ten – the system has paid for itself ten times over.

The company also reports a significant reduction in its fuel bills. Live location data and daily report functions have enabled office staff to monitor and reduce personal use.

Since installing the GPS trackers… our van mileage has almost halved – dropping down from 28,000 to 15,000 miles per year – that’s a huge reduction in fuel costs.

The company also receives service alerts via the Verizon Connect solution, which helps it keep on top of repairs and routine maintenance.
