Nationwide courier firm improves visibility and accountability with easy Verizon Connect integration

It’s easy to use. We can have notifications if a vehicle is going into or coming out of a specific area. We find it beautiful.
Robert Botezatu
Fleet Manager

Founded by on the ground couriers, C&W Transport has quickly expanded to a fleet of over 300 vehicles serving customers nationwide. The company offers same day and next day delivery services as well as special freight and pallet collection and delivery. Working with corporate and private customers, C&W Transport prides itself on its proactive approach to a traditionally reactive industry.

The company’s fleet of small, medium and large vans works with the likes of Amazon and DPD to exceed the needs of customers and ensure letters, parcels and much more are delivered quickly, safely and on time.

The challenge

With hundreds of staff working across the UK and vehicles rarely returning to a central depot, C&W Transport faced a challenge monitoring the status and location of its mobile assets and workforce.

Without easy access to live location information, the company did not have an efficient way to manage customer expectations with accurate ETAs. This lack of visibility out on the road also made it difficult to monitor driver behaviour behind the wheel, potentially leading to unsafe or inefficient driving styles.

Finally, without a comprehensive fleet solution, C&W Transport did not have an automated, central system to track hours, jobs, location and other vital driver and vehicle information.

The solution

C&W Transport fleet manager, Robert Botezatu, and his team opted for the Verizon Connect solution primarily for its extensive APIs and ease of integration into existing systems. Our solution integrates seamlessly with the company’s existing Google Sheets to populate and update driver details in a central and easily accessible portal.

It’s easy to use. We can have notifications if a vehicle is going into or coming out of a specific area. We find it beautiful.

With a live map showing near real-time vehicle information, C&W could also take a proactive approach to customer service, mitigating and managing potential delays wherever possible. Location data could alert management to potential toll and congestion fees, helping to avoid late payments and fines.

In addition, the option to add a dashcam solution was highlighted for its ability to increase visibility on the road and promote safer driving across the fleet.

Because of the quality of the video, we can easily see what has happened in the case of an accident.

The result

Verizon Connect’s fleet management portfolio helps C&W Transport keep a close eye on its vehicles and drivers across the UK around the clock. The Live Map feature allows office staff to quickly check on the status of each vehicle and delivery without contacting drivers directly.

Location information alerts fleet management and finance staff whenever a vehicle has passed through a fee-paying area, such as a toll bridge or congestion zone. This speeds up the admin process and helps to protect against potential fines and unnecessary costs.

As drivers know there is someone potentially watching what they do, they are more careful and better at avoiding distractions.

With high quality video footage captured on the road by the Verizon Connect dashcam solution, Robert and his team can spot and manage incidents. As well as helping to improve accountability and provide evidence in the event of an accident, the presence of the video solution promotes safer and more focused driving across the fleet.

To build on the success of its fleet tracking implementation, C&W Transport is looking to further integrate its systems with Verizon Connect APIs to create a better connected, more intelligent operation.

We will make some changes in our system to benefit as much as we can from our devices and connected systems. We want to integrate the location of the vehicles in all software with APIs.
